In the name of God amen I Benjamin Cobb the County of Southampton being of perfect mind and memory 
to make this writing my last Will and testament viz

1st It is my will and desire that immediately after my death or so soon as it may be practicable that my executor hereafter to be named 
sell on a credit of 90 days or for cash as the urgency of the case may require the following negroes 
to wit Claiborne Nancy Stephen and Abner and such other of my personal as presentable? estate as 
will be sufficient to pay off and discharge my accounts as Treasurer of the school. Commissioned for the County & 
after a sufficient sum is raised out of my estate as aforesaid and hat debt discharge to proceed to Sell on a cash 
of twelve months the blance of my perishable estate for the payment of all my said debts and funeral expenses 
including a head piece at my Grave and after all my debts are paid off as aforesaid I give and a????onse 
dispose of the balance of my estate in the following manner

2n I lend unto my wife Susannah Cobb for and during her natural life all of my land lying on the south side of 
the main road leading through my plantation which includes the mansion from where we now live also 
the following negros Will Miles Abram Toney Charles Celia and child Jenny Venus Pegg Amy & 
Sarah on and after her death as aforesaid I give the aforesaid land and negroes to my nephew 
Benjamin E Cobb son of Jeremiah Cobb to him and his heirs forever 

3d I gave a bequeath to my brother Jeremiah Cobb all my lands lying on the north side of Main 
road leading through my plantation and my gold patent lever watch to him and his heirs forever

4th I give to Loniz Cobb daughter of my decd brother George B Cobb my negro girl Anney and one feather 
bed to her and her heirs forever

5th I give to James J Cobb son of dec brother George my negro boy Sam and Sarah Jr. And the sum of 
two hundred dollars to be left in the hand of executor to be appropriated toward his education to him and his 
heirs forever

6th I give to Elizabeth Cobb daughter of my decd brother George my negro girl Eliza one feather bed and 
furniture to her and her heirs forever

7th I give to Georgianna R Cobb daughter of my decd brother George my negro girl Lizz one feather bed and 
furniture and one chest of drawers to be bought by my exec  to her and her heirs forever

And lastly I do nominate and appoint my Brother Jeremiah Cobb my whole and sole executor 
of this my last will and testament hereby making void all others or former wills by me heretofore 
made with a request that if there is any estate left by me indisposed of that he will apply such estate 
to the education of James J Cobb to whom I give it for that purpose. In Witness thereof I have 
hereto set my hand and affix my seal this 15th day of February 1823

I Benjamin Cobb of the County of Southampton do this 20th day of 
October 1825 make and published this Codicil to and for a part of my 
last will and testament that is today I give my nephew Benjamin E 
Cobb son of Jese Cobb my negro man Tom the Cooper with all his tools and implements belonging to the b??????? 
and I do give my niece Georgianna Rebecca Cobb daughter of my deceased brother George my negro woman 
Sarah the elder which I bought at his sale  and which said woman is lent to my wife in me will 
and that particular part of my said will as respects this woman I revoke and give as above to 
her and her heirs forever and it is my desire that this present Codicil be annexed to and made a part 
of my last will and testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal 
the day and date above.

At a court held for County of Southampton on the 20th day of November 1826. This will and codicil was 
presented in Court by Jese Cobb the executor therein named and it appearing to the satisfaction 
of the Court that as well the body of the said writing as the signature thereto it is the proper hand writing of 
the said Benjamin Cobb Therefore it is ordered that the same be established as ???? his last 
will and testament of said Benjamin Cobb and ordered to be recorded And on the motion of 
the said ex'or who made out of according to the Law Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate 
thereof in due form on his giving bond of security where upon this said Jese Cobb with Henry Briggs Briggs 
& William Briggs in securities entered into & ackd a bond in the penalty of thirty thousand dollars
